Thole pins

Being a user of thole pins I’m always interested to compare and contrast pins on other boats. Here are some from my trip to Cap de Creus.

    I suppose these are used for... tying ropes onto?
    Or hanging tholes from?

    Gaff you salty dog, yes they're for pinning tholes.

    But as Mrs Beeton said, first catch your thole.

    Joking aside the "Thole" is the hole that the "Thole Pin" in inserted into. How do you lash the oar onto the pin?
